In this episode of River Ratz, Daniel and the River Ratz crew put the Hobie Pro Angler 12 to the ultimate stability test.
Are you the type that wants to stand while you fish, but aren’t sure if its for you. Maybe you’ve wondered if kayaks are really as stable as you’ve heard. In the past, it was only a select few kayaks that you would want to stand in, much less stand / fish or stand / paddle, but today manufacturers, such as Hobie understand that stability is one of the top considerations when purchasing, second only to price. In this episode, we show you the good the bad and the ugly.
Everyone knows that the Hobie line of kayaks are, in many ways, second to none, but how stable are they? Is there a big difference in the Hobie Pro Angler 12 and 14. I’m here to tell you that there is a difference, and its not a small one. I have tested a wide variety of kayaks, from the Wilderness Systems A.T.A.K. to the Feel Free Lure 11.5, and of course the Hobie Pro Angler 12, which are all stable kayaks, but some of our findings while testing the Pro Angler 12 may surprise you.
Thanks to Mariner Sails we were able to put it to the test in ways that the average fisherman will never even consider. This stability test includes, side to side stability, standing while paddling, and “extreme” stability test such as standing on the bow / stern and seat.
IMPORTANT: Hatches may not be water tight. Keep this in mind if you’re going to attempt any of these test.
