This is the best rod holder I have seen or used. I have several Scotty rod holders and they are all on my wife's and kids kayaks now. This bad boy is going to stay on mine. The articulation and ability to position and angle it in any direction I want and since one end works with bait caster reels and then flip it over and the other with Spinning, this is a very versatile rod holder. It may cost more than most but it's well worth the price.

I haven't tried it yet but seen some people angle this over the side and put a stay pole through it. I can see that being handy as well, at least maybe, I'd prob just put a stay pole through my anchor trolley or a scupper hole, if I had a stay pole. Either way. As a rod holder this gets my recommendation!

The first time I used this item the brass insert pulled out of the bottom of the Screwball so it would not tighten down in the Gear Trac. Sorry to say but for the price they charge for Yak Attack gear, this thing should be bullet proof and last a very long time. The Screwball is a very poor design with only thousandths of an inch of plastic holding critical hardware in place. It is the weak link in the rod holder design.

I really like this rod holder. It is extremely versatile, and that was a very import feature for me. It securely holds each rod/reel that I have, from ultra light spinning to heavy duty casting. Installation using my kayak's rail systems took only a few seconds.

The ball fit perfectly in my kayak's (Field and Stream Shadow Caster) factory rail, and fastened securely. The screwball mount allows positioning the holder at any angle desired. The tube part of the rod holder secures a spinning reel very well. The other end secures a casting reel well enough, but not quite as well as the spinning reel.

The only complaint I have is that the connection between the tube and screwball mount needs to be excessively tightened to avoid slipping. Even then, a large fish will cause it to slip some if left to pull on the rod too long unattended. This is do to the slick surfaces of ball and mount. I may try to rough the surfaces up a bit to increase friction. It is still quite functional, but this issue reduces my confidence just a bit and kept me from rating it 5 stars.
